I have submitted my second article over at Retro Junk tonight. This time the topic of the article was about some of the cheesiest moments to be found in the original NES console’s games.
Most Frustrating Gaming Moments On The NES
December 9, 2006Hunt the Wumpus
December 8, 2006
I’m willing to bet only a select few will know what that is grinning off to the right. That is the Wumpus, of Hunt the Wumpus fame.
Howard the Duck
December 7, 2006
To this day I have never understood all the Howard the Duck hate out there. People seem to love to trash it. Why? The movie is called Howard the Duck afterall, a film about a human like duck that finds his way to earth and decides to live among us. How serious can you take a movie with a plot like that? It’s not like the filmakers were trying for a Best Picture Oscar here or anything. Just sit down with a bag of popcorn and enjoy a film about a wiseass walking, talking duck.
Howard the Duck scores extra points for having a then ultra hot Lea Thompson in the starring role next to Howard, and a few bonus points for having a pre-political Tim Robbins co-starring as the just a little bit out there wannabe scientist Phil. Good times!
Madballs
December 7, 2006
One of the toys I had wanted as a kid, but never did end up getting, was a Madball. They were these rubber balls made in all sorts of strange and disgusting faces. Madballs were produced in the mid-eightees at the height of the gross-out boom that the Garbage Pail Kids helped create.
Game & Watch Handhelds
December 7, 2006
Last night while browsing for old school video games I stumbled upon these gems. As soon as I saw the first picture it was like part of my childhood came rushing back to me. I know that I, or one of my two older brothers, owned at least two of these games as kids. One of them was Donkey Kong, which I recall distinctly because of the cool split screen, but the other one I can’t remember.
Welcome to Power-Ups!
December 7, 2006Welcome to PowerUps!
Before you begin browsing around here you should know what purpose this site serves. Power-Ups isn’t my own personal shrine to Nintendo. Oh no! Power-Ups is a place where I can reminesce nostalgically about childhood television shows, commercials, movies, games and toys of days past.
In short, the best entertainment possible – our own childhood memories.
Enjoy!
